The Minkowski-Lyapunov equation for linear dynamics: Theoretical foundations

چکیده
We consider the Lyapunov equation for the linear dynamics, which arises naturally when one seeks for a Lyapunov function with a uniform, exact decrease. In this setting, a solution to the Lyapunov equation has been characterized only for quadratic Lyapunov functions. We demonstrate that the Lyapunov equation is a well-posed equation for strictly stable dynamics and a much more general class of Lyapunov functions specified via Minkowski functions of proper C-sets, which include Euclidean and weighted Euclidean vector norms, polytopic and weighted polytopic (1, ∞)-vector norms as well as vector semi-norms induced by the Minkowski functions of proper C-sets. Furthermore, we establish that the Lyapunov equation admits a basic solution, i.e., the unique solution within the class of Minkowski functions associated with proper C-sets. Finally, we provide a characterization of the lower and upper approximations of the basic solution that converge pointwise and compactly to it, while, in addition, the upper approximations satisfy the classical Lyapunov inequality. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd. Optimal integrated passive/active design of the suspension system using iteration on the Lyapunov equations
In this paper, an iterative technique is proposed to solve linear integrated active/passive design problems. The optimality of active and passive parts leads to the nonlinear algebraic Riccati equation due to the active parameters and some associated additional Lyapunov equations due to the passive parameters. Rather than the solution of the nonlinear algebraic Riccati equation, it is proposed ...
متن کاملPeriod-Doubling Cascades and Mode Interactions in Coupled Systems
The study of the asymptotic behavior of nonautonomous linear systems arising from linearization around chaotic orbits offers good prospects for understanding complex nonlinear dynamics. Knowledge of the Lyapunov exponents (and other stability spectra) plays a central role in this context and several computational techniques have been established to address the problem in finite dimension, i.e. ...
متن کاملPolytope Lyapunov Functions for Stable and for Stabilizable LSS
We present a new approach for constructing polytope Lyapunov functions for continuous-time linear switching systems (LSS). This allows us to decide the stability of LSS and to compute the Lyapunov exponent with a good precision in relatively high dimensions. The same technique is also extended for stabilizability of positive systems by evaluating a polytope concave Lyapunov function (“antinorm”...
متن کاملGradient Flow for Generalized Normal Equation with Applications to Linear Matrix Equations
Solving a system of linear equations by its normal equation usually is highly unrecommended because this approach worsens the condition number and inflates the computational cost. For linear systems whose unknowns are matrices, such as the Sylvester equation, Lyapunov equation, Stein equation, and a variate of their generalizations, the formulation of the corresponding normal equation in the se...
متن کاملConsidering Relativistic Symmetry as the First Principle of Quantum Mechanics
Abstract: On the basis of the relativistic symmetry of Minkowski space, we derive a Lorentz invariant equation for a spread electron. This equation slightly differs from the Dirac equation and includes additional terms originating from the spread of an electron. Further, we calculate the anomalous magnetic moment based on these terms. These calculations do not include any divergence; therefore,...
